Pregnancy test results enabled us to offer scanned in lamb ewes to a young client setting up a new farming enterprise. These are due to lamb from late April.
During a routine weighing of ram lambs born last April and May, we identified some top performers to put with ewes for a backup mating. They will only be 14-15 months old when their lambs are born. It gives us an early look at new sires breeding potential. We reduce generational interval, thus increasing the rate of genetic gain.
Our main ewe flock was shorn. It was pleasing to see wool quality improving due to our breeding objectives and selection.
