Good rains continued, and seeding was fitted in around trafficability in paddocks. We are blessed by the good rains in early 2023.
We marked our stud and commercial Dohne lambs, recording breech scores.
After ten years of experience with electronic ID tags in our stud sheep, and with compulsory eID coming soon, we have chosen to fit individual eID PIC tags in our commercial ewes born this year.
It will allow us to track their growth and wool quality down the track. In the meantime, we were able to capture breech wrinkle and cover scores at marking. As these ewes grow we will be able to add weaning and post weaning weights, and then preg scan information.
We see that having this information readily available to us on commercial ewes will become an investment rather than a cost.
If you are moving towards using eID PIC tags and want to ask about our experience, please feel free to contact us.
Damien attended the South Australian Merino Sire Evaluation Field Day to see the 2022 drop progeny. Some of the link sires had also been used in another trial where one of our sheep was evaluated. This increases our interest level.
